How Barista FIRE works

Your Barista FIRE number

(€30,000 − €12,000) ÷ 4% = €450,000

Only the part of your spending the job doesn't cover comes from the portfolio. Full FIRE on the same spending needs €750,000.

Small incomes go a long way

€1,000 a year × 25 = €25,000 less

At a 4% withdrawal rate, every €1,000 a year you earn takes €25,000 off the number you need invested.

Years earlier

Barista17y 9m
Full25y 2m

With the default numbers, €12,000 a year from part-time work gets you out of full-time work more than seven years sooner.

What to plan for

Health insurance Pension contributions Losing the job Tax on the side income

Part-time work can end sooner than you planned. Know how you'd cover the gap, whether that's a cash buffer or a lower budget.
